Dear Friends & Supporters,
Thank you for your amazing support and generosity over the past months as I sought public office for the first time. I am proud of our campaign, which brought friends and neighbors from our community together around the idea that all Virginians and Americans deserve a fair shot to succeed in life.
Over an eighty day spirited campaign, my fellow candidates and I stayed focused on the issues and offered ideas about making Virginia a better place to live, particularly for those most underserved and in need of a voice in their government.
And while we fell a bit short in the end, the challenges facing everyday people in attaining access to high quality health care, education, and economic opportunities are real and there is much work to do. We also need to build a clean energy future that is good for the environment and our economy. These are causes I will continue to fight for every day; and I believe this experience has made me an even stronger advocate on these issues.
Since June 10, I have returned to my role as Chair of the Alexandria Democrats, where we have been busy preparing for our November elections. I have never been more proud to be a Democrat, especially over the past week as the Supreme Court affirmed a key piece of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and ruled the Constitution guaranteed a right to same-sex marriage. I am hopeful we can experience similar progress for gender and racial equality, on voting rights, and immigration reform in the near future.
